HOW DELTAMETHRIN, SCALIBOR'S ACTIVE INGREDIENT, WORKS
The active ingredient in Scalibor is deltamethrin, a substance belonging to the category of synthetic pyrethroids that can protect dogs from the bites of parasites. Deltamethrin has topical activity, meaning that it is not absorbed through the animal's skin, but is distributed along in the skin fat over the entire surface of the body, forming a protective barrier against parasites.
The protective action of deltamethrin is due to its "anti-feeding" effect. : the parasite, annoyed by the molecule, does not make the blood meal that could transmit leishmaniasis to the dog.
Deltamethrin acts rapidly in contact with the parasite. It exerts multiple effects:
- Repellent effect: Mosquitoes and phlebotomes tend not to approach the host.
- Knock-down effect: parasites that do manage to reach the host are affected by motor incoordination that leads them to rapid death
- Anti-feeding effect: neurological marks on the parasites prevent feeding.
- Lethal effect: the parasite is killed.
Scalibor Collar is a veterinary medicine sold in specialty stores, as well as in pharmacies, and is not subject to veterinary prescription.
